Self-care is more than just the latest buzz word, it’s a way of life!

If we don’t take care of ourselves, then life can lose so much of it’s joy. Everything that we’ve worked so hard for can feel meaningless if we’re struggling with exhaustion, overwhelm, stress and that dreaded feeling of not knowing who we are anymore. Self-care ensures that you’re doing what it takes to live a full and happy life, with energy, enthusiasm, excitement and health!

My hope is that you’ll see self-care as the ultimate expression of self-love. By doing this for yourself, you'll also lead the way and inspire others to prioritise self-care…. if we all did this, the world would be a much better place!

What is self-care?

People often think of self-care as bubble baths, massages and walks in nature and while it can of course incorporate these things, there is so much more to it.
Self-care is all about ensuring that you have alignment in all areas of life; that you’re balanced in body, mind and soul. I want you to live a life that makes you happy and excited to get up each day and I want you to have the health and vitality to enjoy that life. Right now, are you fulfilled? Are you happy?

Who needs a self-care coach?

Self-care is essential for everyone, but especially if you have an incredibly busy life. Too many people are struggling with stress and burn out. The costs to individuals and to companies is huge and yet it could often be prevented with more awareness and self-care. If any of the following resonate for you, then you and I could be the perfect fit:

  • Busy professionals and business owners, juggling work and personal life.
  • Caregivers and parents dealing with multiple responsibilities.
  • Those experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges.

What’s it like to work with a Self-Care Coach?

Every journey is individual and I’m committed to walking this path with you. One of the things that I hear time and again from clients is how safe they feel.

They are seen, heard and never judged, only from this place can true healing and transformation take place. Together we explore the past and present, to create a better future. I’ll hold you accountable for the goals that you set and I’ll be the first one to celebrate with you.

An important part of our work together, is being truly honest about how you feel, so I will regularly invite you to reflect. I want you to experience positive change across all areas of your life. So what can you expect:

  • I’ll assess your individual situations and needs. I want to know what you currently do for self-care and what gets in the way of this happening. Sometimes this is time, energy and money, but often deeper emotional components are at play. This is where I get to play detective!
  • Once you’ve reflected on all areas of your life, we’ll agree what your prioritises and create a plan. I have a strong belief in the mind, body connection and so I will encourage you to focus on physical, emotional, and mental self-care strategies. For those of you who consider yourself spiritual, we can also look at how to nourish this element and connection.
  • You’ll get regular guidance and support from me, ensuring you complete your goals. It’s normal for things to feel hard at times and to even sabotage your own success and these are things we can explore together.
  • Through the work we do, you’ll find your connection if yourself and you level of self-awareness deepens. Whatever you experience in life, you’ll be able to be less reactive and take a step back. You’ll have more self-awareness of old habits, your reactions (triggers) and actually what you really need.
  • A big part of my work with you, will be relaxing and calming your nervous system, so that you’re no longer in fight or flight. This takes you away from the present moment and this is where we experience true joy, not in the past, not in the future, but in this moment right now.
  • I will always encourage curiosity. I want you to be curious and interested in everything you experience, whether internally or externally. This has been one of the biggest game changers for me and my clients. Suddenly you can see things what you’re subconsciously trying to achieve through your words and actions.

Why is self-care important?

Self-care is not a luxury and it’s not a frivolous act, it’s an essential part of life, in the same way you would take a shower, or brush your teeth.
The people around you deserve the best of you and not the scraps left behind; but when we’re overwhelmed, exhausted and we’re spinning too many plates, we have little to give. Without adequate self-care we risk burnout, depression, stress, anxiety and being absent from our own life; merely surviving.

Why is self-care so hard for me?

Believe me, you’re not alone with this. I used to struggle with self-care too, but I now know that it’s possible to have a very busy life and still create time for self-care. Some of the reasons you might struggle are:

  • Juggling too many responsibilities. Often we just can’t say no and there’s a saying ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person’. This can lead to us taking on so much more than we can really handle and then wondering why all those plates we’re spinning have come crashing down.
  • It’s easy to feel guilty when we stop, rest or do something for ourselves, we can experience immense guilt. Internally we might ask ourselves questions like, is this okay, do I deserve to rest, is there something else I should be doing, is it okay to speak my truth, is it okay to set boundaries, am I allowed to say no…. the negative internal dialogue can be endless.
  • You don’t have a full understanding of what self-care is. When you’re feeling overworked and overwhelmed, it would be easy to think you just need a rest or a massage, but maybe what you really need is some honest and difficult conversations with people. You might need to say no, set boundaries, delegate…. all of these things can bring up fear and resistance.
  • You worry about the financial cost of things. There are so many ways to embrace self-care without there being huge costs, or any costs. We see so many images on social media that focus on luxury, that we’ve forgotten how much pleasure can be found in the simple. A walk in the park with your favourite person (or dog) followed by hot chocolate can be so fulfilling and rejuvenating.

Mastering your mindset is key when it comes to self-care, because old habits die hard. We may have a lifetime of old programming that we need to overcome, but with consistent effort and my accountability, I know you can do it.

Can I do self-care alone?

Of course, but it’s always beneficial to have the support, encouragement and accountability of an expert. This is something that I feel extremely passionate about and I love working with people 1-1, or in groups as they commit to their self-care journey.
Alone we can struggle to get started, we can get distracted and it’s harder to stay committed to ourselves. There is so much power in coming together in a group to work on self-care.

What does your self-care look like?

If you had asked me this a few years ago, I would have struggled to answer this question. I knew it was important and that I needed more of it, but I struggled to implement it for myself.

It was only when I hit a place in my life where I had no work life balance and life, I was on the verge of another burn out and life had become about surviving, that I knew something had to change.

Now, I’m very committed to my self-care and if that means other people have to wait, get told no, or I actually spend my time and energy on myself… I’m okay with that. We can never recover lost time and it can be very hard to reverse dis-ease and I believe prevention is better than cure.

Self-care can mean different things to different people, but for me, it’s daily dog walks, regular gym sessions, weekly breathwork, daily mediation and EFT/Tapping, relaxing on my Shakti Mat, spending time with friends and family, kitchen dancing to cheesy tunes, being honest when I don’t want to do something or when

I’m triggered, doing things that make me happy, asking for help and spending money on quality supplements and food that give me health and vitality.
